Vitamin E is essential for the health and replenishment of lipids. Applied to the skin, vitamin E’s antioxidant capabilities means it fends off free radicals that cause gradual damage to your skin. In many cases, vitamin E can reverse some of this free radical damage to reduce visible signs of aging.
The problem with vitamin E by itself is that it deteriorates quickly when exposed to light or air, so you rarely see it in skincare products solo. However, when combined with vitamin C, vitamin E becomes far more stable.Grove's line of Superbloom products offers a number of skincare solutions that combine vitamin C & E.
One of the more popular topical applications of vitamin E is to prevent or heal scar tissue. When used preventatively, topical application of oils rich in vitamin E seem to proactively defend against the formation of stretch marks by improving the skin's elasticity. More elasticity equals less scarring. While it’s also popular for treating stretch marks after pregnancy, studies haven’t found vitamin E applied after scar tissue formation as effective in reducing the size or prominence of a scar. While there’s no harm in using vitamin E on scars, it’s best used proactively as a preventative measure.
